COURSE SUMMARY
Various methods of innovative teaching may be implemented in the teaching and learning(T&L) activities to simulate an environment where students are encouraged to be proactive. These innovative methods may be in the form of Project Based Learning (PBL), Project Oriented Problem Based Learning (POPBL), Active Learning (AL), Cooperative Learning (CL)and Independent Learning (IL). Previous methods of teaching laboratory courses are basically in the form of fully guided assignments. The methods are described as prescriptive or traditional methods. However, these methods are now no longer adequate within the context of outcome-based learning environments. It could not provide the platform where students are given opportunities to explore their own simulation and design their own experimental works. This training is to provide the instructor/lecturer/tutor the knowledge on the need for OEL approach in T&L. They should be able to design and conduct OEL activities as well as OEL assessments leading to true attainments to fulfil the EAC accreditation requirements.
THE SPEAKERS
- Ir. Dr Liew was a practicing engineer who later became academia. He is the current Associate Director of the Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC), and the former Associate Director of Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) from 2016 to 2020. Since 2012, he has been involved in the accreditation of engineering degrees, engineering technology degrees, and engineering diploma programmed. He has over 12 years of teaching and academic experience, and managing engineering programmed as well as 12 years of industry experience.
- Dr Zuhaida Mohd Zaki is a civil engineering senior lecturer at UiTM Penang, obtained B.Eng in Civil (USM), MSc in Environmental Engineering (UPM), PhD in Renewable Energy (Australia). She had server UiTM Shah Alam since November 2001. She is the Head of Quality Management & Accreditation, UiTM Penang, an ETAC BEM panel evaluator. Dr Zuhaida also led the Open-Ended Learning, UiTM Penang (2016-2022) and provided training on OEL to Civil Engineering Programmed at UiTM Penang, UiTM Johor, UiTM Pahang & UiTM Sarawak.
- Ir. Dr Siti Hawa is a retired Professor in Civil and Structural Engineering from UiTM Shah Alam. She is the former Director of the Engineering Accreditation Department, BEM. She specializes in load bearing wall panel structures and engineering education. She made impactful contributions to Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Qatar on OBE and quality assurance. Dr. Siti published 15 books in structural engineering and more than 175 technical papers.
