Synopsis

Learning  Outcome

This course provides participants with a comprehensive and practical understanding of electrical load consumption in buildings and facilities, framed within current energy management practices and regulatory requirements. It begins with essential safety, regulatory, and EECA 2024 context, followed by clear explanations of basic electrical energy concepts, energy pricing, and the structure of the electricity supply system. Participants will learn to identify and classify types of electrical loads—including lighting, ACMV, motors, and plug loads—and understand how these loads shape load profiles, peak demand, base load, and energy cost. The course then focuses on measuring and collecting load data, covering what to measure, where to measure, suitable instruments, data quality, and basic measurement planning. Using real examples, participants will be introduced to basic load analysis, including trend interpretation and regression-based approaches for energy management and performance evaluation. Finally, the course demonstrates how load information supports operational, control, and investment decisions, helping participants prioritize actions, justify improvements, and verify results. Through case studies and practical exercises, participants will gain the skills needed to interpret data, reduce energy cost and risk, and support effective, data-driven energy management in their organizat.
  • Explain and interpret fundamental electrical load concepts, including kW, kWh, maximum demand, base load, and load profiles, and relate them to electricity cost and system operation.
  • Measure, organize, and analyze electrical load data using appropriate parameters and tools to identify Major Energy Users (MEU), inefficiencies, and abnormal patterns.
  • Apply load information to propose, prioritize, and justify operational, control, or investment actions for improving energy performance and reducing cost and risk.
