1 DAY SEMINAR ON "GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING"
Venue: Trove Hotel, Johor Bahru, MALAYSIA Date: Saturday, 27 August 2022 Time: 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Jointly Organised: AFEO/AER of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) & IEM Training Academy Sdn Bhd (Wholly-owned by The Institution of Engineers Malaysia and formerly known as IEM Training Centre Sdn. Bhd) Supported with: IEM Southern Branch |
.
INTRODUCTION:
Geotechnical engineering is the branch of civil engineering that deals with the physical and mechanical nature of geomaterials and geotechnical structures. The fundamentals of geotechnical engineering involve the principles of geology, soil mechanics and rock mechanics applied to complex geotechnical engineering problems and solutions. Thus, the knowledge of engineering geology is also essential in dealing with geotechnical structures built on rock formations.
Geotechnical engineering has a wide application from slopes, dams and mining to a more sophisticated application such as excavation, tunnelling, ground improvement and deep foundations. In addition, the fields of geotechnical engineering have also integrated with engineering geology to mutually identify problems and solutions pertaining to geomaterials and geotechnical structures. Moreover, the fields of geotechnical engineering have evolved to geohazards, georisk and geotechnical forensics where these elements explicitly deal with sustainable development and construction relating to IR 4.0.
