SYNOPSIS
This program is developed for technicians, engineers, and energy managers involved in facility management and focused on energy-saving activities. As part of the EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act) requirements, energy managers must develop energy-saving measures for electric motor systems such as pumps, fans and compressors. This course is designed to provide comprehensive information on what facility management personnel should know about energy efficiency when dealing with electric motor systems, including pumps, fans and others. Case studies based on actual motor systems are included and participants will learn to identify energy-saving measures for those selected systems.

TRAINER'S PROFILE
R. Gobbi has a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering. He has been associated with technical education for more than twenty years. He has supervised many research projects on power electronics, variable-speed drives, automation, and domestic electrical installations. He is a project leader and member of various government research projects related to electric motors and drives system. He is a consultant providing solutions for many problems associated to electric motors and drives system for various industries. He has completed many energy auditing projects in industries. He has published more than 80 technical papers in international journals, conferences and magazines. He is an associate professor in faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University, Malaysia. His research interests are in application of second life electric vehicle battery, reliability of electric motors, power electronics applications in energy industries, switched reluctance motor drives system and solar power application. He holds train the trainer certificate from Human Resource Development Corporation, Ministry of Human Resource, Malaysia. Dr. Gobbi is a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, a professional engineer with practicing certificate registered to Board of Engineers, Malaysia, Energy Manager Type 2 and Energy Auditor Registered to Energy Commission, Malaysia, and a Senior Member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, US.
MODULE DETAILS DAY 1 MODULE 1: UNDERSTANDING ENERGY AND TARIFF Determining power and energy. Understanding Electricity Tariff and Maximum Demand, Diversity factor, Enhance Time of Use (ETOU) scheme. EECA 2024 and EECR 2024 MODULE 2: INDUSTRY ELECTRIC MOTOR SYSTEM Induction motor system. Working Principle, Speed and torque control. Electromechanical Starters (DOL, Star-delta and Auto-Trans), Variable Speed Drives, Soft Starter. High Efficiency Motor (HEM), Insulation Classes, Load Profile for Pump, Blowers and others. DAY 2 MODULE 3: EVALUATION OF MOTOR SYSTEM Checking through motor inventory list. Identifying potential motor system for energy saving projects. Testing Equipment to capture Energy Profile of Motor System. Developing energy apportioning chart for motor systems. Identifying load factor of selected motor system. MODULE 4: ENERGY SAVING MEASURES Work on the details of selected motor system for potential savings options. Identifying the payback period and CO2 emission equivalent. Prioritizing energy saving measures. Identifying zero cost energy saving measures. Reporting energy saving measures based on energy commission guidelines. |
